Steel Lintel Replacement

Project Overview

A McHenry homeowner noticed a widening crack above their front window, with the brickwork visibly sagging and separating. Our inspection revealed a severely corroded steel lintel that had lost over 40% of its cross-section to rust — a dangerous condition that would eventually lead to a structural brick collapse. RCC Masonry carefully shored the brickwork above the window, removed the failed lintel, and installed a new hot-dipped galvanized steel angle iron rated for the load. We reset all displaced bricks with fresh mortar, tuckpointed the surrounding area, and sealed the new lintel ends with flexible caulk to prevent future water infiltration behind the brick. The repair restored full structural support and eliminated the crack pattern completely. We also inspected all other lintels on the home and provided the homeowner with a condition report.
