Chimney Crown & Cap Replacement

Project Overview

A Grayslake homeowner contacted RCC Masonry after noticing water stains on their ceiling near the fireplace. Our inspection revealed a severely cracked chimney crown and a missing chimney cap, allowing rainwater to flow directly into the flue and down the chimney cavity. We removed the old deteriorated crown, formed and poured a new reinforced concrete crown with a 2-inch overhang and drip kerf, and installed a multi-flue stainless steel cap with a mesh spark arrestor. We also tuckpointed the top six courses of the chimney where mortar had softened from constant moisture exposure. The repair eliminated the water intrusion completely, saving the homeowner thousands in potential interior damage repairs.
