Smart homeowners get multiple quotes before committing to a concrete project. But getting quotes is only half the battle — understanding how to compare them is what protects your investment. Here's how to approach the process.
How to Request Quotes
Start by describing your project clearly: what needs to be done, approximate size, any specific finish preferences, and your timeline. Request on-site estimates — never accept phone or email-only quotes for concrete work. The contractor needs to see soil conditions, access, drainage, and any complications firsthand.
Comparing Apples to Apples
The most important step is ensuring you're comparing identical specifications. Check concrete thickness, PSI rating, sub-base depth, reinforcement type, and finish. A $5,000 quote with 4" of 4,000 PSI concrete on 4" gravel with wire mesh is not the same as a $3,500 quote with 3.5" of 3,000 PSI concrete on dirt with no reinforcement.
