Our Tuckpointing Process
Proper tuckpointing is a multi-step process that requires skill, patience, and the right materials. Here's how we do it.
1. Inspection & Prep
We inspect all mortar joints, identify areas of deterioration, check for underlying issues (failed lintels, drainage problems), and prepare a detailed scope. We protect surrounding surfaces and set up dust containment.
2. Mortar Removal & Repair
We remove deteriorated mortar to a minimum 3/4" depth using grinders and hand tools — never just skim-coating over bad joints. Fresh mortar is custom-mixed to match your existing color and packed in lifts for maximum bond strength.
3. Finishing & Protection
We tool each joint to match the existing profile (concave, v-joint, flush, etc.), clean all residue from brick faces, and apply waterproofing sealant when appropriate. The result is tuckpointing that looks original and lasts 25-30 years.
